Relaxed Get-together
If you arrive on Friday, which we highly recommend, you can explore the surroundings with a walk or a short run, start the day relaxed and well-rested with the other "early birds" and the organizing team.
We deliberately do not provide a program for Friday, but we are sure that you will enjoy the relaxed start to the weekend.
Some participants help us with setup and carrying boxes. Any support is always welcome. Afterwards, a drink together?!
Character
Runners of all nationalities and performance levels, including beginners and hikers, are welcome to be on the move for as long as they want within the 24-hour time frame and take as many breaks as they wish. Less experienced participants can engage in conversations with top athletes and witness them striving for top positions.
Everyone will find something for themselves, whether you start alone or in a 4-person relay, run barefoot or in shoes, take no breaks or many breaks, are a beginner or a seasoned pro, compete against yourself or others, aim for the winner's trophy or simply enjoy the relaxed movement, the atmosphere, and being together with familiar (or new) running friends and our lectures in between.
The challenge starts at 12 noon on Saturday. The starting and finishing point is our Basecamp, right by the "TRAILDORADO Castle". Your completed laps will be recorded, and there will be an award ceremony at the end. The first lap has ALWAYS BEEN RUN TOGETHER since the first edition. A beautiful ritual, in our opinion. The circuit is well marked and orientation is easy even at night. A headlamp is mandatory at night, though. And to truly enjoy nature, the number of starting spots is limited.
Course
The 24h Trail Challenge takes place on a circuit in the beautiful nature of the Arnsberg Forest. A successful compromise between experiencing nature, variety & pleasant tranquility on one hand, and the proximity to the base camp with refreshments and accompanying program on the other.
The course (preliminary design) is 4.1 kilometers long with 130 meters of elevation gain and offers beautiful single trails in the forest that require concentration, gentle to steep ascents, open field paths, and nice panoramic views here and there.
Additional Information on the German Championship in 24-Hour Trailrunning (TRA)
There are currently no qualification standards for entry. Consideration is given to those who start at TRAILDORADO and hold German citizenship. For the 4-person relays, at least 2 team members must be German citizens. The results will also be recorded on the TRAILDORADO certificate. The top 3 finishers will receive a medal as part of the German Championship ranking. What we don't like is a lengthy awards ceremony with winners from all possible age groups. In our view, at such a small, family-like event, this is rather pointless. Otherwise, the ceremony could quickly become longer than the race itself, which can become quite boring quickly.
Relays: A relay German Championship with a special ranking and medals for the top three places will only be held if at least 6 teams participate.
General Information:
Open Ranking
Each participant takes part in the open ranking.
German Championship (TRA)
Each participant who takes part in the 24h "Original" and holds German citizenship participates in the German Championship in 24h Trailrunning (TRA). For relays, at least 2 participants must hold German citizenship.
Age Groups
The age groups are divided as follows:
MU20/WU20: 18-19 years
M20/W20: 20-29 years (main class)
M30/W30: 30-34 years (seniors)
M35/W35: 35-39 years
M40/W40: 40-44 years
M45/W45: 45-49 years
M50/W50: 50-54 years
M55/W55: 55-59 years
M60/W60: 60-64 years
M65/W65: 65-69 years
M70/W70: 70-74 years
M75/W75: 75-79 years
M80/W80: 80-84 years
M85/W85: 85-89 years
M90/W90: 90-94 years
M95/W95: 95 years and older
The calculation is based on birth years. So, the age reached on December 31st of the year is crucial.
Awards
The first 3 overall winners in the categories Men, Women, and Teams will be honored. A special ranking will be done for the German Championship. Here, the first 3 overall winners in the categories Men, Women, and Teams will also be honored.
There is no separate classification for pure Men's, Women's, or Mixed Teams.
There will be no awards for age group winners.
Of course, we would be happy if all participants stay until the award ceremony. We celebrate not only the heroes but also the helping hands and, of course, all participants. TrailDORADO is only as good as all of us together.
Certificates
Certificates for each participant will be available for download. You can find the download link directly in the results list.
Pimp your Run!
Our previous lecture and workshop program is unique. There has not been anything like this in this form and scope before! (except with us ;-)
The program thrives on the participation of you runners and is continuously updated until the event weekend. If you want to contribute, feel free to contact us. The program has two main focuses:
Global Running Adventures
Experience reports on global running events, trail & ultra-marathons, as well as self-organized trips. The speakers will take you on an entertaining journey to all corners of the planet. It will quickly make your feet itch.
Practical Workshops & Expert Lectures
Educational insights on topics related to running, such as sports medicine, injury prevention & therapy, coordination training, nutrition, mental training, etc.
The lectures/workshops have a duration of approximately 30-45 minutes. Afterward, the speakers will be available for further exchange. All speakers are active runners themselves, and some even participate as official participants at TrailDorado.
After organizing a full day program full of inspiration and passion on Saturday and Sunday in the first years, we now focus on 2-3 lectures/reports/readings on Saturday evening and 1-2 practical workshops during the weekend.
Have you experienced something great? Come by and share your story!
We will put together the lecture & workshop program for 2020 in the near future. If you have a topic you would like to talk about or even contribute with a professional article - Great! Just contact us via our contact form and we will discuss it.
These are some of the lectures and workshops we have had in the past years. A big thank you to the speakers once again!

Live Music & DJs
A little pressure on the ears can't hurt the mood and energy level. That's why we invite DJs and bands to our basecamp and onto the trail to turn TrailDorado into a bit of the "Woodstock of Trailrunning."
The range extends from rock, pop, charts to relaxed electronic music and even Caribbean rhythms. However, we have declared our event a "Helene Fischer-free zone" from the beginning. We think it works quite well without her :-)
You shouldn't be surprised if suddenly a guitarist smiles at you while running in the forest and you hear gentle bossa nova sounds, or if you start dancing to cool live acts or tropical beats at the basecamp. Or if a duo with vocals and guitar drives you with "Mamor, Stein und Eisen bricht, aber deine Beine nicht..." Everything is possible.
