Online Briefing

Since we have been receiving repeated questions regarding arrival and camping in the context of our GOLD EDITION in 2022 after the registration start on November 24, 2021, we have decided to make our online briefing public. This way you will already get a very good impression of the surroundings and the essential organizational matters. Of course, there will be a brand-new briefing shortly before the GOLD EDITION.

More Questions & Answers

I am more of a beginner, novice, or casual runner, is this event still suitable for me?

Definitely. There are several beginners participating. During the weekend, we especially want to promote the uncomplicated exchange between the experienced runners and those with less experience. The workshops/lectures also offer many exciting learning opportunities for beginners. Additionally, 24-hour runners are inherently VERY RELAXED due to the long duration. A slow jogging pace is recommended, even for the experienced runners. You can have relaxed conversations while running (most of the time, at least :-)

Do I have to run for 24 hours straight?

No. Everyone runs as much as they want and can take breaks whenever and for as long as they want. Everything is possible and great. Additionally, there are plenty of lectures happening in parallel. Some participants run a few laps and then attend a workshop or simply enjoy themselves with friends at the refreshment stand. Others may want to run a (half) marathon on Saturday and Sunday, meet a few friends in between. Some may want to run continuously. Just do what you want and what feels good for you.

I am an experienced ultra and 24-hour runner, will I still enjoy the event?

Of course, the circular course is very beautiful and quite challenging when you take it on for 24 hours, especially during the night. There will be some ambitious participants aiming for the winner's trophy. Since 2015, we have even hosted the German Championship in 24-hour trail running (TRA)!

I am registered as a runner, can I attend the lectures/workshops?

Yes, the program is open to all participants. You are flexible and can spontaneously enjoy some lectures during your running breaks, as long as there is enough space available.

Can I also hike?

Yes, of course. In 24-hour runs and long ultramarathons, walking phases are almost always included, which is completely normal. Eventually, the boundaries between running and hiking blur. Some of our friends are avid fast hikers and overall not much slower than some runners.

Is there a refreshment station?

Absolutely! Our XXL athlete buffet (also suitable for vegans and vegetarians) is available to you 24 hours directly at the track at our base camp. If you need some variety, you can find brunch or delicious dining options in the nearby area.

Can we shower on-site?

Yes.

How long is the course? How many meters of altitude does it have?

Approximately 4.1 km with around 130 meters of altitude.

Can I park directly at the track?

There are about 30-40 parking spaces directly at the house. These are initially reserved for the orga team, medical staff, and the press. Otherwise, there are numerous parking spaces in the immediate vicinity.

What equipment do I need?

Normal, weatherproof running equipment suitable for trail running or running in the woods, that reliably gets you through the day and night. It's advisable to have spare clothing if you plan on taking multiple breaks/running sequences.

Is the trail illuminated at night?

No. A headlamp is absolutely necessary, as well as sufficient spare batteries.

Do I need to book accommodation?

No, but we highly recommend it. The cost for a bed including breakfast is very low at 31 EUR/night and even the most ambitious runners appreciate the occasional power nap in a warm bed. And in case of bad weather or when things aren't going so well, it's comfortable.

Can I also camp?

Yes. Directly behind the trail is a soccer field that belongs to the house. Camping is possible for a fee of 5 EUR (directly at SGV-Jugendhof), however, only once the house is fully booked, essentially as a reserve option for latecomers.

Can we run as a relay team together?

You will receive a race number and a chip. Except for the first lap, which we traditionally all run together, in relay teams only one person with a race number and transponder can be on the circuit at a time. The other team members are welcome to run along, cheer on the course, etc. Or if someone takes a break, they can also attend the lectures & workshops, provided of course that you have booked them.

Will I get a refund if I don't participate?

The planning for the event is already in full swing. Permits are obtained well in advance, contracts are signed, and so on. Please understand that in case of non-participation, we do not refund the organizational fee. This is common practice in other races as well. However, up to 14 days before the start, there is the option to transfer your spot to another person for a fee of 15 EUR. After that, no changes can be made for organizational reasons. We recommend taking out a "race fee insurance". You can find suitable insurances online by searching for "Finisher Protection" or "Race Fee Insurance". There are insurances that cover a single race for just 2-3 EUR, so you may get a full refund of your organizational fee if needed. Yearly packages (up to 500 euros per event) including sports equipment insurance are available for around 25 euros. We deliberately do not mention any names here, as we currently do not have a partnership with any of the insurance companies.

Can we take a break and rest at the house?

Of course.

Do you still need volunteers?

Yes. If you feel like supporting us, just let us know. The more volunteers, the more relaxed it is for everyone. Plus, it's just a lot of fun.

What else can we do to help you?

Bring really good vibes and relaxation, no matter what happens or what the weather is like. Bring your instrument along, maybe there will be some small jam sessions. If you know any musicians/bands, ask them if they want to come by. Bring a slideshow, a presentation, and most importantly: spread the word! You are also welcome to contribute something delicious for the catering, as we have always been greatly supported in recent years and surprised with homemade rum balls, meatballs, cakes, salads, etc.
